TIACA Air Cargo and Logistics Regional Forum to be held for the first time in Central AsiaFrom June 19th to 21st, 2024, the Republic of Kazakhstan will host, for the first time, the Air Cargo and Logistics Regional Forum. The event will be held under the auspices of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Civil Aviation Committee. It will be co-organized by the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan. The Cargo Forum will take place within the framework of the 2nd Aviation Talks and will be themed 'Silk Road in the Sky – Kazakhstan Air Cargo Hub.' Participants will engage in discussions regarding key aspects of the air cargo industry, including transit potential, multimodal transportation, innovations and digitalization in cargo transport, airport infrastructure, logistics centers, efficient customs procedures, sustainable aviation fuel, cooperation with international air carriers, and investments in training and personnel. The Forum is expected to engage stakeholders across the entire air cargo logistics chain, both at international and regional levels. It serves as a key event for sharing experiences, networking, and addressing current industry challenges. With the rapid growth of globalization, the development of cargo aviation plays a crucial role in modern logistics and trade and stands as a key element in Kazakhstan’s multimodal logistics strategy. The development of cargo aviation in Kazakhstan not only contributes to its integration into the global economy but also creates new opportunities for transit and logistics infrastructure development. 🛫 Cambodia’s Billion-Dollar Airport: A Symbol of Growing BRI Dependency?Cambodia’s Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, built with a colossal investment of approximately $1 billion over three years, has commenced operations, raising questions about the country’s growing reliance on its political and economic patron through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).📊 This new 700-hectare airport, situated about 40km from Siem Reap, was funded and developed by a consortium of state-owned companies from China’s Yunnan province. The consortium holds a 55-year build-operate-transfer deal.✈️ The airport is designed to handle 7 million passengers annually, with provisions for expansion, serving as the gateway to Cambodia’s biggest tourism draw, the Angkor Wat temple complex.🚄 Conversations with Chinese firms, including China Railway Construction and China Metro Group, involve discussions about modernizing Cambodia’s existing rail network and developing light-rail connections to the Siem Reap airport and another under construction in Phnom Penh.🤝 During a BRI forum in China, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet signed multiple memorandums of understanding for potential projects, further solidifying the country’s growing reliance on Chinese investments.🏗️ The new operator of the airport, Angkor International Airport Investment, is a consortium of Yunnan Investment Holdings, Yunnan Construction Investment Group, and the Yunnan Airport Group, all from China.💡 This development raises critical questions about the extent to which Cambodia’s economic and political interests are becoming intertwined with those of its economic patron, China, as billions of dollars pour into the country under the Belt and Road Initiative.#China #BRI #CambodiaPicture Credit: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Credit to Jamille TranThu, Dec 21, 2023After repeated delays, Vietnam’s US$70 billion high-speed railway to finally see light of day, ASEAN Business - THE BUSINESS TIMEShttps://lnkd.in/gKS3EDgQFor the better part of the last two decades, Vietnam has tried to modernise its rail transport network with high-speed bullet trains connecting the country – only to be held back by a lack of government consensus and access to funding. That all looks set to change, with the US$70 billion North-South high speed railway project – a 1,500 km route linking the capital Hanoi with the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City – finally making some progress.Earlier this week, the Transport Ministry announced it will complete the project’s pre-feasibility study report and aim to begin construction of two priority sections before 2030.

🚢🔁 Connecting Shores : Towards more sustainable corridors, ports and maritime routes 🔁Maritime transport represents the cornerstone of international trade with more than 80% of volumes traded globally transported by ship. At the level of the European Union, 37% of traded volumes transit through sea ports. 🌍Recent events such as the COVID-19 pandemic or the ongoing armed conflicts in Ukraine and in the Red Sea highlight the political and economic impacts of major disruptions in maritime freight. 🤝Against this backdrop, international organizations, governments and other key economic players, notably the private sector, join efforts to develop more efficient, resilient and secure transport corridors and maritime routes. ⚓Ports in particular, as interfaces between land and sea, have a crucial role to play to support international logistics chains and must therefore demonstrate agility📆 Hence, to support Team Europe’s efforts, Expertise France proposes to organize a dedicated event in Marseille on 15 May 2024 in order to promote a joint reflection amongst European development stakeholders and their international partners on priorities and solutions for the creation of strategic, sustainable and secure transport corridors. 💻 Register here to participate 👉 https://lnkd.in/gKXxEcqX 📍 Cosquer Méditerranée, Esplanade du J4 13002 Marseille 🕘 9 AM – 6 PM AFD - Agence Française de Développement Région Sud - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Grand Port Maritime de Marseille - Port de Marseille Fos
